Sustainable Tourism Ireland aims to be a community of like-minded operators who should work on shared definitions and goals to implement a network of sustainable tourism resources in Ireland.
Barbara (from Italy) has always enjoyed at a personal level being involved in social activities, especially regarding education and environmental protection. Since 2001, when she came to Ireland, she has worked with Sustainable Ireland (a cooperative which is Ireland’s premier resource for sustainable living.), and has become more and more interested in Sustainable Tourism.
Cecilia (also from Italy) is an educator, a teacher, a music therapist and a volunteer for Cultivate, where she has been coordinator of the volunteers’ group since 2003.
It was a natural step, in 2005, to unite efforts together and create the project: in fact Cecilia and Barbara realized that, while eco, sustainable and responsible approaches to tourism are becoming more widespread abroad, there is no national coordinated project on this here in Ireland. “We feel it is the right time to create one in Ireland!”
Sustainable Tourism Ireland is an organisation which promotes the concept of sustainability within the tourism sector. It is building a community of like-minded people who share the same vision and passion in growing sustainable tourism. They operate week long and half day tours in Ireland, along with green economy tours which include workshops and education.
