An average of 2,300 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in Ireland, and this is set to double in the next 15 years.
There are many side effects of cancer treatment that may alter a person’s self image and confidence such as surgery, hair loss and weight gain. Change in body image produces distress and can lead to the loss of self-esteem, reclusive behaviour and distortion of personal relationships. Maintaining a positive body-image is an important part of the healing process.
Maureen Noone is the creator of ‘Nothing to Wear’, a style consultancy service which helps cancer patients regain confidence and self esteem following cancer treatment.
With over twenty five years of experience in the fashion retail business, Maureen began to work with cancer patients on a one to one basis and saw how much they benefited from the service. She has set up styling workshops for hospitals and cancer support groups throughout Dublin. Through these services and her website she is focused on helping women improve their self-image and quality of life.
I get great satisfaction seeing these brave women looking good and feeling better about themselves.
