GRACE (Gort Regional Alliance for Community and the Environment) is an umbrella association for twenty-five established and newly formed groups in the Gort region.

GRACE has two distinct wings: Campaigning and Integrated Programme Development. Campaigning activities in the past year involve making submissions to the Gort Area Plan, to the Traffic Management Plan and to the Waste Management Draft Plan.

GRACE applied for, and was awarded the Urban and Village Renewal Scheme Grant of €240.000 to refurbish the Town Square. GRACE also won a major campaign with the NRA (National Roads Authority) to have a second junction built off the new N18 Dual Carriageway, which will run from Gort to Crusheen.

Before coming to Gort, Co Galway, Niamh worked in Overseas Aid and Development for Oxfam, UNICEF and World Food Programme in East Africa during the war-torn Nineties. Originally born in Dublin, Niamh has had a varied and international career as an author, DR. of Psycho-Therapy and was originally, a successful singer and song-writer in London during the 1970’s.
