Overview
Problem
Brian-Michael and Bernard started the Ideas Academy programme with a question: “How do we enable the move to a more sustainable diet, reduce carbon emissions in our eating habits, encourage better land use and live long, healthy lives for generations to come?” It’s estimated that 30% of greenhouse gas emissions come from food production and food waste is another hugely contributing factor. The average Irish household throws away €700 worth of food each year.
Solution
Brian-Michael and Bernard developed a mobile app Feeds that delivers sustainable, weekly meal plans which contain exciting vegetarian recipes that use seasonal and local vegetables. The app includes pre-made shopping lists and recipes that provide an injection of variety in weekly dinners.

Impact
During the Ideas Academy Programme, Brian-Michael and Bernard developed a free pilot of Feeds for a closed group of users and have been measuring the impact of the app through interviews, surveys and by monitoring usage. The Ideas Academy programme supported Brian-Michael and Bernard to iterate the idea of Feeds more frequently by using the design thinking process. Feeds were awarded €1,500 in seed funding following the close-out of the programme, they will put it towards monthly running costs, buying some photography equipment and putting a marketing plan in place. “The Ideas Academy gave us the confidence to pilot earlier than planned to get real-world feedback sooner”
